One of the great things about moccasins and moccasin slippers is their classic, unisex styling.
Because of their timeless design and living heritage, traditional moccasins appeal to people of all ages and all walks of life. Men’s or women’s, the fundamental styling doesn’t really change that much. They’re one of those rare wardrobe essentials that suit everyone, and work with everything from khakis and jeans, to shorts and skirts.
Many contemporary shoes have absorbed or “borrowed” certain features of the moccasin — most notably deck shoes and loafers. But there are several signature characteristics that make a true moccasin instantly recognizable.
Puckered Vamp
The U-shaped leather upper, gathered with sturdy stitching is a time-honoured feature of the moccasin, believed to have originated with the Ojibwe peoples.
Quality Hides
Original moccasins were crafted with the most durable but soft leathers for long-term wear. Today, moccasins are still available in a variety of hides, from moose to cowhide.
